Eucalyptus trees from a Ka'u forest will be processed in a proposed Ookala veneer mill under an agreement announced Monday.
Cambium Global Timberland Fund announced Monday it has acquired the lease to 6,100 acres of forest from Kamehameha Schools for $6.1 million. The lease had previously been held by Hancock Natural Resource Group.

Cambium Global Timberland Ltd., an Australian investment fund, announced this week that it had acquired lease rights to 6,100 acres and intended to sell timber to Tradewinds.

An investment fund that focuses on the forestry sector yesterday announced the acquisition of rights for 6,100 acres of Big Island timber for $6.1 million.
Timber rights for the land, which is in Pahala, were sold by Hancock Natural Resource Group to Cambium Global Timberland Ltd. Kamehameha Schools owns the land, which includes a 3,700-acre timber plantation and 2,400 acres of native forests.

Hawaii Electric Light Co. has signed an agreement to purchase electricity produced by a proposed biomass-powered generation facility on the Big Island.
Tradewinds Forest Products LLC and Rockland Capital Energy Investments plan to produce electricity by burning scrap wood from their proposed veneer mill at the former Ookala Sugar Mill site.

Hawaii Electric Light Co. announced Thursday it has signed an agreement to purchase renewable energy produced by a biomass powered generation facility.
The energy will be produced by Tradewinds Forest Products LLC and Rockland Capital Energy Investments, according to a release from HELCO.

HELCO agrees to purchase more renewable energy

Hawaii Electric Light Co. on Thursday said it has signed an agreement to purchase renewable energy produced by a biomass-powered generation facility under development by Tradewinds Forest Products LLC and Rockland Capital Energy Investments.
The cogeneration facility will be part of a veneer mill Tradewinds plans to build in Ookala on the site of the now-defunct Hamakua Sugar Mill. Scrap wood from the veneer operation will be used to power Tradewinds' generating unit.
